Through disciplined planning and technical integration, the studio brings together acoustics, lighting, audio-visual systems, and infrastructure into a unified system. From concept through construction, every project is guided by decades of expertise in theater consulting, performance venue design, and technical systems integration.
Services
Theater Design
Working with your team, we will conduct existing condition surveys and inspection of production technology systems. Our performance technical systems consulting will provide comprehensive analysis of existing conditions surveys, performance related technical systems including rigging, seating, sightline studies, stage machinery, theatrical drapery, pit lifts, orchestra shells, and performance lighting systems. We provide master planning; professional services Request for Proposal development; owner representation for facilities upgrades; and program analysis for performing arts centers including sightline studies and logistic analysis for multi-use venues.

Audiovisual Systems
Working with our clients we provide a comprehensive investigation of the venue’s acoustical requirements based on existing or intended programming. This includes an assessment of room acoustics for performance and production facilities, and noise vibration control for mechanical systems, sound isolation systems and environmental noise control. Our objective is to collaborate with our client’s key stakeholders and current organization model to identify what works, what opportunities exist to improve, and what gaps may be addressed so that our client’s venue can operate at peak effectiveness to meet their own expectations for their organization.

Introducing
Studio B1
Some places shape how a profession evolves.
One of those places is a classroom in the basement of the University Theatre at the Yale School of Drama.
It was known simply as B1.
For decades, it served as a working laboratory for theater design. Students studied how performance spaces function, worked through drawings and technical problems, and learned from George Izenour, widely regarded as the father of modern theater consulting.
That lineage of thinking about performance spaces as integrated systems continues in Studio B1.
Founded by Todd Berling, Studio B1 brings together theater planning, acoustics, and AV design into a single coordinated discipline. The studio works closely with owners, architects, and design teams from early programming through commissioning to ensure theaters function as intended in real use.
Studio B1 will make its public debut at USITT26.
